This is McKenzie, a 12-year-old girl with a mitochondrial disease.
There is no cure yet for mitochondrial diseases, and they are often fatal.
But that doesn't stop McKenzie from her love of entering pageants.
In this pageant, she chose to do a dance routine.
With some help from her dad.
McKenzie suffers from a mitochondrial disease which is life threatening. Doctors said she would never make it to her teen years. There is no known cure for this terrible disease. She was diagnosed when she was a year and a half. After many hours, days, even weeks of research her parents found some alternative therapies to help treat her disease, hyperbaric oxygen therapy and intensive suit therapy. McKenzie has responded to these treatments extremely well. They began a fundraising mission to raise the funds for these treatments because insurance does not cover them and they are very expensive. "As a mother of a special needs child, there is nothing I won't do to help improve my daughter's quality of life. She is such an inspiration to everyone she meets."
